Famous Director Bapu’s original name was Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana who was born in Narasapur, Andhra Pradesh to Sattiraju Venugopala Rao and Suryakantam. Bapu has completed his masters at University of MadrasBapu is a screen writer, director, musician, painter, cartoonist and designer. Bapu has been introduced as a director with Saakshi, he has won numerous awards and most of his films have been screened in many International film festivals. Bapu had a close association with Ramana (Mullapudi Venkata Ramana) who worked with him as a screen writer for his films. Their combination have given many super hits and most of the films ended collecting great money.

Bapu has won Two National Awards, Seven State Nandi Awards and Two South Filmfare Awards as the best director. Bapu also won a Life time Acheivement award from Filmfare for the year 2012. Bapu started his career as a cartoonist and he gained international recognition through his works and Bapu Bomma was famous one among his works. He was a delegate at the seminar in Bangalore on Children's Books sponsored by UNESCO in 1964. He has designed and illustrated several books for leading publishers in South India out of which, five received Government Awards. He has also done the same for innumerable works drawn from the puranas and folklore.

Bapu has introduced Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor to Telugu and Hindi cinema, Bapu also directed many Bollywood flicks like Hum Paanch,Prem Pratigyaa,Seeta Swayamvar, Anokhi Bhakt, Bezubaan etc. He has been awarded Padma Shri for his immense work and contribution to Indian art and cinema. Bapu had suffered heart attacks many times throughout his career. He was admitted into a hospital at Chennai in mid August 2014. He experienced from cardiac arrest on 31 August 2014. He died on the same day from cardiac arrest. The Government of Andhra Pradesh, has announced state funeral for Bapu. Bapu will be remembered in the history of Telugu cinema forever.
