Drishyam’s Tamil remake stalled by Kerala court

A Malayalam filmmaker-scriptwriter has filed a petition with the Ernakulam District Court asking to stop the Tamil remake of Drishyam, alleging that the original film is a copy of his story published as a book in May 2013 called Oru Mazhakalathu. The Malayalam Drishyam was released in December 2013. The court has now declared that the Tamil remake will be stalled until the case is cleared. Kamal Haasan is acting in the Tamil version and the pooja ceremony was completed recently.

Drishyam has been a huge hit in Malayalam and it was remade into Kannada and Telugu which went on to be blockbusters.  "There are many who claim copyright to Drishyam's story. This is just one of them" said a spokesperson from the Malayalam production house. Mohanlal, lead actor of Drishyam and the director Jeethu Joseph have been unavailable for the comments despite of several attempts.
